Articles of Faith: Can Rick Perry’s Evangelical Appeal Reach Beyond Texas? | Swampland http://ti.me/pGtF27
So with spending the majority of my time outside of the United States as my primary excuse, I will admit that I am far from the most informed when it comes to the in’s and out’s of the American political scene. I am still greatly interested in it though. One of the topics garnering lots of attention is the Republican race to field a candidate to oppose President Obama in the 2012 elections. If the question of religion in public life was not already important enough it is gaining more attention now. Current Republican front-runners’ religious beliefs have become an intrinsic part of their identity. Mitt Romney is Mormon. Michelle Bachman is an outspoken Evangelical. The latest candidate to surge to the front of the polls is Texas governor Rick Perry. This article from time.com queries whether Rick Perry who is Evangelical but has not fallen into the camp of “islamophobia” that many try to include as part of being a Christian. I don’t know much about it but see lots to like from this article.

Again, being away from the USA cureently I am not directly affected by hurricane IRENE (ironic: from the greek meaning peace) but this is a major topic of interest up and down the eastern seaboard of the United States today. Also, a year ago about this time I was on vacation with my in-laws in the Outer Banks of North Carolina directly in the path of this storm. The weather underground is just one of the many places you can go to stay up on the latest news. It is unfortunate that there are already multiple confirmed deaths related to the storm. I hope people will take appropriate precautions to prevent further casualties.
